After check in visit to the Vista Alegre Palace. Founded in 1824, the Vista Alegre Porcelain Factory was the first industrial unit dedicated to producing porcelain in Portugal. On 1 July 1824, a Royal License issued by King João VI granted authorization to build the Vista Alegre Porcelain Factory. A mere five years later, Vista Alegre gained the title of Royal Factory in recognition of its artistry and industrial success. Nowadays, Vista Alegre is more than a mere industrial unit. It is also part of the Portuguese heritage, boasting buildings of undeniable architectural interest, and a repository of social and artistic memories essential to the building of a Portuguese identity. The River of Aveiro is a box full of surprises that do not only appear trough the channels of the city center, where the Moliceiros depart. Our starting point is the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França, inserted in the architectural complex of the Vista Alegre Factory, this chapel from the 16th century. Next, we suggest a visit to Ílhavo Maritime Museum, awarded in 2003 with the Mies Van Der Rohe Prize of modern architecture, on a voyage through the seas, estuary, fishing and a live cod. Then to Costa Nova, an opportunity to get to know the Palheiros da Costa Nova, a group of colorful pinstripe houses in front of the Ria de Aveiro between the Sea and good opportunity to taste our delicious Sea Food and fresh fish. Visit Aveiro, famous for its tiles and ceramics, a city of typical moliceiros boats, known as the "Portuguese Venice" and see the beautiful facades of the houses that connect the river to the city. o come to Aveiro and not to go on a “moliceiro”, is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. The Moliceiro boats have for centuries represented a vessel for the harvesting and transportation of moliço (a kind of seaweed) in the Ria de Aveiro. At that time, these could be moved to the sail, the rod or the tow. One of the most distinctive features of these boats is its decoration. They are decorated with paintings depicting, almost always, satirical or comic day-to-day situations.
