The US-based Cognizant announced that Lisbon has been elected as one of the 21 places of the future, due to the quality of its universities, infrastructure and security.

Lisbon has been elected as one of the 21 places of the future, standing out for the quality of its universities, infrastructure and security, according to a study by US-based Cognizant.

In a statement, the technology services company announced that “Lisbon was chosen from among more than 150 cities in the world as one of 21 places of the future”, positioning itself as one of three European cities on the final list.

The evaluation concluded that Lisbon is a “sophisticated city” that stands out for the quality of its universities, infrastructures and security, for its access to private capital, its stable local government/administration and for being a sustainable city.

Furthermore, the capital was highlighted for “being an easy place to work”, for the cultural and entertainment offer and for being a talent pool, as well as for presenting a good standard of living/cost of living.

In addition to Lisbon, the study distinguished cities such as Tel Aviv (Israel), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Wellington (New Zealand), Dundee (Scotland), Toronto (Canada), Atlanda, Sacramento and Portland (USA), Kochi (India), Songdo (South Korea), Tallinn (Estonia), Shenzhen and Haidian, Beijing (China), Nairobi (Kenya), Lagos (Nigeria) and Da Nang (Vietnam).

Alongside these 17 cities, the list includes four places with “no specific physical location”, namely Remotopia, Virtual Space, Outer Space and New Hanseatica.

“We have identified Lisbon as a hotbed of global innovation and new ideas, which will certainly create and drive the future of work. The fourth industrial revolution and pandemic are transforming the economy on a global scale, and new talents, new skills and new attitudes are needed,” said Manuel Ávalos, Cognizant’s managing director for Southern Europe, quoted in the same document.

As explained by the company, the ’21 places of the future’ is a roadmap that allows companies, governments and businesses to learn from the success of other growing places.

“Vencendo todos os constrangimentos, preservámos a reputação e a notoriedade dos nossos destinos”, congratula-se Rita Marques, secretária de Estado do Turismo, considerando que Portugal mostrou ao mundo que é “um país seguro, pronto para a todos receber, quando assim for possível”.

“Muito obrigada a todos os portugueses, que contribuíram para que Portugal continue a estar entre os melhores”, acrescenta a responsável, citada num comunicado enviado à imprensa pela Secretaria de Estado do Turismo.

Considerados os ‘óscares’ do turismo, os World Travel Awards são atribuídos anualmente, desde 1993, pelos profissionais do setor a uma escala mundial, distinguindo o trabalho desenvolvido na indústria turística de modo a estimular a competitividade e a qualidade do turismo.

Além dos prémios conquistados por Madeira, Lisboa e Algarve, Portugal conquistou mais 14 prémios na gala mundial dos WTA2020:

Portugal foi considerado melhor destino turístico do mundo para pessoas com necessidades específicas. É o primeiro prémio desta natureza entregue pela Organização Mundial de Turismo.

 

Portugal tornou-se o primeiro país a ganhar o prémio “Destino Turístico Acessível 2019” da Organização Mundial do Turismo (OMT), um galardão que distingue os melhores destinos turísticos do mundo para pessoas com deficiência. A contribuir para a vitória portuguesa estiveram o programa “Praia Acessível”, que facilita o acesso a 209 zonas balneares a pessoas com mobilidade reduzida; e o programa “Festivais + Acessíveis”, que adapta os festivais de verão a pessoas com necessidades específicas.

Em comunicado enviado à comunicação social, Ana Mendes Godinho, Secretária

de Estado do Turismo, este prémio representa “um grande impulso para que Portugal se torne o destino mais inclusivo do mundo”: “Esta é uma questão de cidadania e este é também um segmento muito importante no Turismo mundial. Ainda há muito a fazer. Quem perde esta carruagem perde o comboio”, comentou.

Também a Secretária de Estado da Inclusão das Pessoas com Deficiência, Ana Sofia Antunes, afirmou que “este é o reconhecimento de um trabalho sólido e estruturado que Portugal tem estado a realizar em matéria de promoção de mais e melhor acessibilidades para todos”: “Este Governo tem dado passos seguros no sentido de transformar Portugal num verdadeiro país inclusivo. É um caminho sem retorno, pois a isso nos obrigam todos aqueles para quem trabalhamos, sejam eles pessoas com deficiência ou condicionadas na sua mobilidade”, acrescentou.

O prémio “Destino Turístico Acessível 2019”  foi entregue esta terça-feira em São Petersburgo, na Rússia, durante a 23ª Assembleia Geral da Organização Mundial do Turismo, e “reconhece o esforço de Portugal na promoção da acessibilidade no Turismo”, considera o ministro da Economia.

Em 2016, por exemplo, foi lançado o programa “All for All” que “cria roteiros acessíveis em todo o país”. A aplicação “Tur4All”, também ela portuguesa, também lista os restaurantes e hotéis preparados para receber pessoas com necessidades específicas. E, nas Escolas de Turismo, o currículo académico passou a incluir cadeiras dedicadas ao turismo acessível. Segundo o comunicado do ministério da Economia, esses programas levaram ao investimento de 20 milhões de euros.

Na Europa, há 90 milhões de turistas com necessidades específicas de mobilidade.
